HIP PAIN

Hip pain can interfere with walking, sitting, standing,
and sleeping - affecting everything from daily life to athletic performance.

At the KiRO Clinic, we help patients overcome hip pain by identifying the root cause, restoring joint function and treating muscular imbalances that create tension and dysfunction around the hip.

WHY DOES MY HIP HURT?

The hip is a complex joint influenced by the spine, pelvis, knees, and surrounding muscles. Pain in the hip region may stem from joint inflammation, nerve irritation, impingement within the joint, muscle weakness or even referred pain from the lower back.

Our Chiropractors are uniquely trained to assess how your entire musculoskeletal system (kinetic chain) impacts your hip function and to create a personalised plan that treats both the pain and its underlying cause. See below for common hip conditions we treat.

Common hip conditions we treat

Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI)

FAI occurs when extra bone on the femur or hip socket causes the bones to rub together abnormally, especially during bending or rotation.

Symptoms may include:

  • Sharp or electric pain

  • Sciatica or arm pain

  • Tingling, numbness, or weakness

  • ain that worsens when sitting, bending, or coughing

We help relieve stress within the joint and improve mobility by correcting pelvic mechanics, helping the femur to translate to a different section of the hip joint, reducing muscle tension, and guided retraining to strengthen specific muscles which hold the results.

Hip flexor strain / Overuse

The hip flexors (especially the iliopsoas) can become tight or overactive from prolonged sitting, running, or postural imbalance, leading to:

  • Deep groin pain

  • Discomfort when raising the knee

  • Reduced hip extension or walking stride

Our Chiropractic treatment targets underlying pelvic misalignments, tension in the hip flexors and poor movement patterns that lead to overuse.

Hip bursitis (Trochanteric & Iliopsoas bursitis)

Bursae are small fluid-filled sacs that reduce friction between bones and soft tissue. When inflamed, they cause localized hip pain.

  • Greater Trochanteric Bursitis causes pain on the outside of the hip, often worse at night or when lying on the affected side.

  • Iliopsoas Bursitis causes groin pain and may feel like snapping or catching when lifting the leg.

Hip osteoarthritis

Hip osteoarthritis involves gradual degeneration of the cartilage in the joint, often accompanied by:

  • Stiffness in the morning or after inactivity

  • Groin, thigh, or buttock pain

  • Grinding or catching sensations

  • Reduced range of motion

Our goal is to preserve joint mobility, reduce surrounding muscle tension and keep you as mobile and functional as possible.

Labral Tears

FAI occurs when extra bone on the femur or hip socket causes the bones to rub together abnormally, especially during bending or rotation.

Symptoms may include:

  • Sharp or electric pain

  • Sciatica or arm pain

  • Tingling, numbness, or weakness

  • ain that worsens when sitting, bending, or coughing

We help relieve stress within the joint and improve mobility by correcting pelvic mechanics, helping the femur to translate to a different section of the hip joint, reducing muscle tension, and guided retraining to strengthen specific muscles which hold the results.

Piriformis syndrome

The hip flexors (especially the iliopsoas) can become tight or overactive from prolonged sitting, running, or postural imbalance, leading to:

  • Deep groin pain

  • Discomfort when raising the knee

  • Reduced hip extension or walking stride

Our Chiropractic treatment targets underlying pelvic misalignments, tension in the hip flexors and poor movement patterns that lead to overuse.

Snapping hip syndrome

Bursae are small fluid-filled sacs that reduce friction between bones and soft tissue. When inflamed, they cause localized hip pain.

  • Greater Trochanteric Bursitis causes pain on the outside of the hip, often worse at night or when lying on the affected side.

  • Iliopsoas Bursitis causes groin pain and may feel like snapping or catching when lifting the leg.

Referred hip pain

Not all hip pain originates in the hip itself.

It may be referred from:

  • Lumbar spine (L2-L4)

  • Sacroiliac joint

  • Lower abdominal or pelvic floor muscles

Our thorough assessment helps identify the true source of pain so we can treat it effectively at its origin.

Pregnancy-related hip pain

As the pelvis shifts to accommodate a growing baby, many women experience:

  • Hip and groin pain

  • SI joint discomfort

  • Gluteal tension or sciatica

  • Instability when walking

We offer safe, gentle care during all stages of pregnancy to reduce pain, improve alignment, and support a more comfortable pregnancy.
